Airspace Classification

The subject property is located outside the 9.0 Km radius of the Kamloops Flight Service Station (CYKA – FSS). Unmanned Aerial Vehicle / Drone flight missions were conducted following protocols for Class G airspace as outlined in the Canadian Aviation Regulations to fly at this location. UAV Flight Mission Notes

It was a pleasure to conduct unmanned aerial vehicle flight missions at the Harper’s Trail Estate Winery property east of Kamloops, near Lafarge. There were very few interruptions due to low flying manned aircraft, such as helicopters or high winds.

Obstacles included terrain, utilities, buildings and equipment. Most obstacles are located away from the subject property, giving a great deal of open space to conduct the UAV flight missions.

Meteorological conditions were favourable during most flight missions. Winds did pick up during one of the flight missions. Wind speeds were gusting up to 34 km/h, based on readings from our portable weather station.

Media, including general aerial UAV photos, aerial UAV map photo sets and general aerial UAV video sequences were captured over four separate flight missions. The general aerial UAV photos and video were captured for marketing purposes. The aerial map UAV photo sets were captured to create standard orthomosaic images and NDVI images of the vineyard, as a part of a case study.

About Harper’s Trail

Harper’s Trail is the first winery from the Kamloops area. The winery is situated on the north side of the South Thompson River, near Lafarge. Rolling green farmland and beautiful grape vines can be viewed from the wine tasting room. Harper’s Trail is a proud member of the Kamloops Wine Trail.
